The American Sustainable Business Council Saddened by the Loss of Friend and Ally Rep. Elijah Cummings
WASHINGTON DC – Commenting on the death of Representative Elijah Cummings today, the American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC), representing the public policy interests of more than 250,000 responsible businesses, expressed condolences to his widow, his beloved city of Baltimore, fellow Congressional members and his community at-large.
“We are so sorry for the loss of our friend and ally, and we extend our deepest condolences to Elijah’s widow Maya Rockeymoore Cummings and to the many communities for whom he was also a dear friend and ally,” said Jeffrey Hollender, CEO of ASBC. “He was an amazing role model as a fierce advocate for justice for all. His passing is a deep loss for the nation. But let us all be inspired by his example to stay off the sidelines and fight for what we believe in. Now more than ever!”
Representative Cummings was honored by ASBC in 2017, receiving a SUSTY Policymaker award for his efforts to ensure election integrity. ASBC Board Member and President of Ibis Communications, MaryAnne Howland, who presented the award, said at that time, “Representative Cummings has been a long-standing leader in Congress promoting election integrity and advocating for election reform. As part of his commitment to a transparent electoral system, he has urged his colleagues to actively investigate the impact of Russian interference in the 2016 elections.”
SUSTY awards, or Sustainable Policymakers Awards, are given annually by ASBC to recognize exemplary leadership in promoting policies that help build a more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable America.
