Vice President for Policy & Government Affairs (Full-Time)

ASBN is seeking a highly motivated, and politically engaged person as our VP of Policy & Government Affairs. You will work with the policy team and support the development and implementation of the organization’s legislative and regulatory strategies to advance its policy priorities in support of sustainable business and an economy that works for all. This person will also ensure consistent progress towards legislative and regulatory priorities and impact by identifying strong policy opportunities and partnerships and by building and deepening legislator relationships at the federal level. The Policy Director manages the Policy Team and is responsible for seamless communication and coordination with communications, events, and marketing staff.

Principal Responsibilities
Strategy
  • Collaborate with ASBN policy team, VP for Strategy and Impact, President and other staff to carry out strategic priorities focused on key and emerging issues and policy opportunities in alignment with the ASBN capacity, mission, and principles
  • Devise, implement and refine policy campaign strategies and approaches that will demonstrate progress on key issues
  • Collaborate with communications team to create highly visible and impactful earned media
Advocacy & Lobbying
  • Maintain and build relationships on Capitol Hill
  • Maintain and build relationships with Federal agencies
  • Seek out and convene events to advance ASBN priority issues and raise member voices and achievements (e.g. ‘fly-ins’, briefings and hearings, etc.)
  • Develop and communicate the business case for policy change (e.g. reports, case studies, op-eds, sign-on letters, webinars, etc.)
  • Work in partnership with our members and allies
Organizing
  • Build coalitions of ASBN members, which include investors, SME businesses, and business organizations, to advance policy priorities
  • Execute campaign tactics to engage and mobilize members on policy actions
  • Identify new partnerships and new members that will help advance ASBN’s agenda
Qualifications
  • Strong relationships with federal legislators and agencies leads
  • 5 years of experience in issue campaigns and a policy-related or intersectional field. Experience in policy work related to justice, labor rights, worker ownership, antitrust, and/or the inclusive economy is a big plus
  • Capacity to identify emerging issues and develop innovative solutions to a diverse set of policy issues
  • Adept at establishing and managing strategic partnerships and coalitions
  • Able to analyze policy
  • Ability to understand political dynamics, the concerns of different constituencies, and how to motivate members to engage in the policy process
  • Collaborative, team player, self-motivated, creative problem solver, and able to scope and manage multiple projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Able to craft clear and compelling ‘action alerts,’ as well as longer, well-researched fact sheets, policy briefs, reports, etc.
  • Passion for sustainable business and building an “economy for all”

Salary

$120,000
