Marketing Associate


Reporting to the Communications and Storytelling Senior Manager, the Marketing Associate works cross-functionally serving internal and external stakeholders to plan and implement marketing and advertising activities that promote awareness and elevate the ASBN brand. The Marketing Associate manages ASBN’s digital communications platforms to promote members, investors, events, campaigns and more. In addition to managing the monthly Making an Impact newsletter, eblasts, sign-on letters, and the annual report, the Marketing Associate supports Membership by implementing marketing activities to engage with and increase membership. The role also assists the Web and Policy teams with their marketing needs. The Marketing Associate uses research and data to provide sound marketing counsel, guidance and recommendations to leadership. The Marketing Associate uses the lens of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout all of their activities and in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and principles. 

Principal Responsibilities:  

  • Membership Engagement and New Membership Acquisition
  • Send weekly email to State & Association members to promote an action item, advocacy opportunity and/or share relevant and impactful information
  • Develop social media strategies for new membership acquisition
  • Create systems to identify non-ASBN members that participate in events, webinars and conferences/programs and then implement strategies for membership engagement and acquisition
  • Leverage existing member information and interviews to strengthen ASBN presence 
  • Generate digital and print marketing material 
  • Maintains accurate records for reports of membership activities 
  • Ensures membership materials are available for meetings and events
  • Generate reports for insight into membership engagement
  • Where appropriate, follow up with attendees and ensures their engagement in working groups

Production of Making an Impact Monthly Newsletter and Annual Report 

  • Organize, write, and summarize media coverage, events, member and investor news, and policy wins  ASBN has achieved the previous month or year 
  • Highlight the important main events that took place the previous month or year 
  • Conduct a membership interview with one member every month 
  • Compile our earned media for the month  
  • Create the template and design for the annual report  
  • Create and edit the template for our monthly newsletter that will have a concise and organized reasoning behind it 
  • Utilize Adobe InDesign to create the Annual Report template

Production of Eblasts and Sign-on Letters

  • Create sign-on forms through Salsa for our campaigns
  • Create and send eblasts that go to our full list, member list, investors, and working groups
  • Update the communications calendar on a weekly basis to track  when eblasts are being sent 
  • Upload sign-on letters, blog posts, monthly newsletters, press releases, and media coverage to the website 

Required Skills: 

Strong marketing background with an innovative approach to nonprofit marketing and communications; ability to collect, forecast and communicate complex data and trends; writing and editing skills; design skills involving Canva, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator; copyediting abilities; strong organizational skills when compiling monthly and yearly reports; a creative thinker with an ability to think outside the box to increase membership and member engagement, communicate policy objectives, develop compelling marketing materials, and increase overall brand awareness.
