The Communications Associate Contractor plays a key role in the success of the communications strategy for the American Sustainable Business Network (ASBN).

ASBN is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inform, connect, and mobilize business leaders and investors to transform the public and private sectors toward a just and sustainable economy. In partnership with the business and investment communities, we are building a powerful new movement to fundamentally change the way the economy works so that it works better for the Earth and everyone on it. This is no small effort. Success depends on the participation of all stakeholders. To that end, we’re working collaboratively with companies, communities, governments, nonprofits, and a membership network that collectively represents over 250,000 businesses to develop and promote concrete solutions to the challenges we face. 

This temp position oversees the organization’s communication strategies and initiatives. The role includes developing communications content — including drafting press releases, op-eds, blog posts, media advisories, pitch emails, membership emails, newsletters, social media content, supporting media outreach, and tracking earned media coverage.

  • Edit Monthly Membership Newsletter Content and drop content into Mailchimp
  • Edit general communication emails
  • Create blogs and social media content to highlight our members success stories
  • Create social media posts to recap ASBN work
Sales Prospecting Communication needs
  • Create a general monthly newsletter for sales as a prospecting tool
  • Edit sales prospecting materials
  • Create blogs and social media content to reach prospective members
Event Communication
  • Support event team with their event communications by editing any final emails or documentation

Policy Needs:

Strategic Communications
  • Support our larger policy and government affairs goal by being at the table, driving the thought leadership and developing the plan for how we can generate earned media around our policy/advocacy efforts.
    Ex: We are looking for someone to tell us how to best position ourselves to be the go-to in this field. Does it make sense to shop a story around one of our sign-ons, or should we try to place an op-ed, or do we want to land a quote on something we care about?
Rapid Response
  • Ability to draft a statement and create a communication strategy on how to best disseminate statement and also inform the public on what ASBN is working on
Campaign Support
  • Create a series of email and social media campaigns
Desired skills and capabilities:
  • Availability 9am-5pm EST, M-F
  • Experience with creating content including: SEO optimized blog posts, white papers, drafting press releases, op-eds, media advisories, pitch emails, membership emails, newsletters, and social media content
  • Experience developing a communication strategy with competing priorities
  • Experience pitching press releases to a variety of news outlets
  • Ability to follow instructions and deadlines, as well as navigate evolving signals and incomplete information
  • Be an excellent and articulate communicator, outstanding copy editing skills, and have a strong work ethic
  • You should be a self-starter with the bandwidth to multitask and prioritize
  • Skilled at using Canva, Mailchimp, Google Suite, Monday.com, Slack, Meltwater, and all social media platforms including Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook
Location:

Remote.

Commitment:

20 hours per week, during regular 9a-5pm EST business hours

Compensation:

$50/ hr depending on experience
